Helping pet caregivers stay connected for better health tracking
Herd is an app designed specifically for pet care management, communication and connection, providing dedicated features tailored to the unique needs of pet-owners and carers.
Project Overview
Problem
Discord's current features offer limited support for optimizing interactions and engagement among gamers and the streaming community.
Process
Competitive research and user interviews identified opportunities for two new features. User journey maps revealed key pain points, guiding the design process from low-fidelity wireframes to mid-fidelity prototypes. Iterative testing refined these designs, culminating in a high-fidelity Figma prototype that incorporates the Discord design system and an onboarding experience.
Solution
Feature 1: Streamlines and enhances the promotion of streamer content via customizable notification boxes, boosting visibility and engagement.
Feature 2: Improves group call experiences during gaming, with quick visual messages, ensuring clearer communication and an inclusive experience.
Context
Discord is a communication platform that enables users to create and join servers for text, voice, and video chat. It is a great online space to build a community and it is commonly used by gamers as an effective online gaming chat.

Industry audits and generative user interviews were the foundation of this project. Current Discord users of different categories were interviewed to discovered current user flows and opportunities to improve the overall experience with a new feature.

Mid-fidelity Prototype: A data-driven health tracking system with daily inputs across various health categories, providing insights into well-being trends over time which can be downloaded or shared.

The announcement button can be found within the message bar. Clicking on the button will open up your templates for stream notifications.
Connect your twitch account to the notification and add extra details such as start time, duration and game played.

Game Mode
Using digestible status updates to improve the communication with friends while gaming.
Mid-fidelity Prototype: Using the app as a secondary device to add a visual form of communication with your friends while you are gaming on a voice call.

Within an audio call a new option to switch game mode on/off appears.
When you turn your phone landscape you can use this as a secondary device to send quick visual messages into the chat.
New Feature Onboarding
How do we inform the users about the new features on the app? Exploring two different options for letting users know about the new feature on discord when they open the app for the first time after the update.

What could be next for this project?
Advancing Feature A to offer greater customization options, including stream snippets, highlights, and improved integration with Twitch.
Development of Feature B to provide an accessible way for individuals who are hard of hearing to participate in audio calls. Further testing could pave the way for this enhancement.
